“Daddy’s Spirit Moves Me Forward” was incorporated on September 9, 2005 as a Pennsylvania non-stock, non-profit entity. The organization is led by Ron Opher, its volunteer Executive Director.
“Our mission is to serve children whose fathers have died” says Opher, who lost his father at age 15. “We hope to demonstrate, at an appropriate time for each individual child in their grieving process, that it’s OK to have fun again.” Opher hopes that Daddy’s Spirit will be able, with the assistance of businesses and individuals, to provide outlets for children to participate in enjoyable activities – ones that they may have shared with their father or new activities that they are interested in pursuing.
“As we move through the process of registering this entity as a charitable institution, at this point I am focused on bringing together an advisory board in the very near future,” says Opher, who would like to discuss the organization’s mission with individuals who would like to help. Opher points out that there are over million children (age 20 and under) in the United States whose fathers have died and says simply - "there are many kids that we can help."
Opher concludes that he has “big things in mind for Daddy’s Spirit. Ultimately, we want to show that the child’s life dreams don’t die with the loss of their father. This could transcend providing things such as sporting event tickets, fishing equipment or musical instruments all the way to helping fund a child’s college education. If we are able to tap into boundless creativity and generosity, we will be able to achieve incredible results.
